HOW IT WORKS
Stretch marks are formed when the skin has been stretched to the
point of breaking down connective tissue in the dermis, the
underlying layer of the the skin. The marks that show through on
the top layer of the skin, the epidermis, are commonly referred to as
'stretch marks'.
There are several reasons why the skin may be
stretched to cause stretch marks. The most common causes are:
Heredity also plays a role in the
appearance of stretch marks. For unknown reasons, some people are
more prone to
getting stretch marks than others.
Since dry skin has less elasticity than oily skin,
some researchers have suggested
that those with dryer skin may be more prone to stretch marks.
